1972: Apollo 17 returns to Earth after a ten-day trip to the Moon. Astronauts Gene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt were the last humans to walk on the surface. Perhaps prophetically, Cernan scribed a message on the lunar surface before he left: “We Shall Return.”
