1962: Lockheed test pilot Louis Schalk makes the first official flight of the prototype of the A-12 aircraft designed and built at the Lockheed Skunk works. The A-12 is the predecessor of the SR-71 Blackbird. The previous day, it had made an unofficial and unannounced flight, in keeping with Lockheed tradition. (USAF Image)
