1911: The New York Times headline announced that “Miss Quimby wins air pilot license.” Miss Harriet Quimby earned the first pilot’s license ever issued to a woman by the Aero Club of America, and the second ever earned anywhere by a woman. She received number 37 at Mineola. She had passed the test the day before.
