1904: Capt. Thomas K. Baldwin built an aerodynamic cigar-shaped hydrogen-filled dirigible–the California Arrow, using a 7 hp (5.2 kW) Hercules motorcycle engine manufactured by Glenn H. Curtiss. With Lincoln Beachey as pilot, California Arrow made the first controlled circular flight in America.
