AFHF President’s Medal for Service

The AFHF President’s Medal for Service is awarded by the Foundation President for selfless service to the AFHF at the discretion of the President.

Former AFHF Executive Director James Vertenten was honored with the inaugural AFHF President’s Medal in recognition of his lifelong dedication and selfless service to the Foundation. The award was presented by Foundation Office Manager and longtime colleague, Angela Bear.

Jim’s visionary leadership and unwavering commitment were instrumental in keeping the Foundation relevant and thriving. His ability to adapt, innovate, and inspire ensured its continued impact, strengthening its mission and legacy. His dedication not only preserved the Foundation’s purpose but also set the stage for its future success.

AFHF President’s Medal for Service to Col. Steven E. Newbold, USAF (ret) For Dedication and Determination above and beyond the call of duty as Foundation Treasurer and Co-Executive Director from 2019-2023. The Foundation is greater because of Steve’s selfless service.

Richard Wolf
The AFHF Board President, Jonna Doolittle Hoppes presents the AFHF President’s Medal for Service to Richard I. Wolf, Editor in Chief of the Journal of the Air Force Historical Foundation. Richard spearheaded the evolution of the Journal from all print, black and white to four annual digital issues and a Special print edition in full color. This Summer Edition is the culmination of a remarkable tenure. Beginning as a typesetter, and then climbing the ladder, He is “the needle in the haystack.”
