On This Day in History / January 19, 2024 2000: NASA conducted the first X-38 Crew Return Vehicle flight test with its full-scale parafoil recovery system. The craft used a 143-foot parafoil, with a 7,500-foot area, the largest parafoil ever built. The parafoil deployed in a 30 second, five-stage process after being released over the Yuma Proving Ground, Ariz.
