On This Day in History / May 23, 2023 1923: Hermann Oberth successfully defended his doctoral thesis on rocket science. Over the next several years, Oberth expanded his thesis and published the books, “The Rocket into Planetary Space” in 1923 and, “Ways to Spaceflight” in 1929.
