1918: At 11 A.M. the Great War comes to an end. The American Air Service had deployed a total of 45 aircraft squadrons and 37 balloon companies. At War’s end the Air Service consisted of 20,568 officers, 175,000 enlisted men, 3,538 aircraft in service in the AEF, and another 4,865 aircraft in service in the U.S.
