1988: The Air Force Space Surveillance Element was activated in the Cheyenne Mountain Complex. Later designated as the 1st Command and Control Squadron, this unit established command and control relationships between Air Force and United States Space Command. Later transferred to Vandenberg Air Force Base, the unit eventually became the USSF’s 18th Space Control Squadron.
