On This Day in History / September 20, 2024 1966: Lt Col Donald M. Sorlie became the first USAF pilot to fly NASA’s M2-F2 Lifting Body from the AFFTC at Edwards AFB. A B-52 launched the M2-F2 from 45,000 feet. It reached nearly 400 MPH in its 3 ½-minute flight. It was flight #7 for the M2-F2.
