On This Day in History / June 16, 2023 1971: The USAF and NASA signed an agreement to conduct Joint Transonic Aircraft Technology (TACT) Program to explore application of supercritical wing technology to highly maneuverable advanced aircraft. The F-111 became the test bed aircraft. Over a span of more than 20 years, records indicate around six General Dynamic F-111 Aardvark aircraft at the NASA Dryden Flight Research Center, Edwards, California, participated in the TACT program.
